The Importance of Goal Setting: Stay Focused on Your Success.

I didn’t have any goals or direction, just went with the flow of life. I was what Zig Ziglar described as a “wandering generality.” I was stuck in a rut and not the very best husband or father I could be. At times I would take my frustrations out on my wife and family, and it was putting a strain on my relationship with my wife. I had to make a change and seek out something better. This is what you might call a midlife crisis. I wanted to be a better person for myself and for my family.


You need to know where you are going first. Then you need to figure out how to get there. Goals are the purpose of an aim. The end game will keep you on track through a plan. Execution of the plan leads to achieving your goals. Write specific goals to be focused on what you want. This is why we started with “What does success look like for you?” so you can set goals within your vision to help you achieve your aim. Without purpose, there is no reason to set goals.


State your specific goals in the third person, as if you’ve already accomplished them because it will change your mindset and the way you think about your goals. You will become the person you’re stating you want to become like it’s already been done. Your goals should have direct alignment with your purpose. Then write them down.


The Importance of Goal Setting.

Goal setting is essential to identify but also set around what your purpose is. When you set a goal that seems impossible to achieve you want to stay focused. When the goal is set, you can double down on what actions it will take to achieve the goals.


SMART Goals.


The structure of goals needs to set yourself up for success. The SMART Goal process is the system to help you achieve the larger overreaching goal. Since you can’t get something for nothing it takes work and focus to get what you want.


Use the SMART goal framework for small goals that will help you achieve your global view and help you achieve your why. If you have the end in mind and want a million dollars in your bank account, it isn’t magically going to be deposited. You need a plan and SMART goals will help you to get there in a step-by-step fashion to break up your large goal into smaller manageable chunks. This philosophy is in lockstep with Stephen Covey’s perspective of one of the 7 habits of highly effective people. First things first. In simpler terms. You can’t go through A to Z without saying B


On May 25, 1961, President John F. Kennedy addressed a joint session of Congress and delivered a historic speech in which he announced the goal of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to Earth by the end of the decade. In his speech, Kennedy said: "I believe that this nation should commit itself to achieve the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to the earth. No single space project in this period will be more impressive to mankind, or more important for the long-range exploration of space, and none will be so difficult or expensive to accomplish." Kennedy's speech came at a time when the United States was lagging behind the Soviet Union in the space race. His bold and ambitious goal rallied the American people and the scientific community behind a common cause, and it ultimately led to the success of the Apollo program, which achieved Kennedy's goal in 1969 with the landing of the Apollo 11 mission on the moon.


“America, we are going to the moon,” is the end goal but it would take thousands of “little” achieved goals to add up to the big one. You can’t just magically go to the moon when it’s never been done.
